By Sarah Slack, Ward Manager, Swale Ward

There was a recognised need for a dedicated space where patients could engage in therapeutic activities and find a sense of calm and safety.

A collaborative approach was used with the planning and organising the set-up of the room involving the patients, the Swale clinical team and senior management to create a mutually appreciated space. The project has created a room that is warm, welcoming and nurturing and in turn creates a sense of belonging and pride to our patients. This is inline with trauma informed care and has promoted a culture of positivity, engagement and collaboration.

The therapeutic room has since become a corner stone of our ward, offering patients a much-needed refuge and will contribute to their treatment and recovery.
